Description
The Real Review awarded this red wine 93 points, and it is a delightful blend of grapes from two different vineyards. The original Penfolds RWT vineyard in Nuriootpa, dating back to approximately 1890, is blended with grapes from a vineyard in Stone Well, planted in 1970. The winemakers prioritized a gentler fermentation approach, using 10% whole bunch and avoiding excessive ripeness. The wine was then aged for 12 months in only 20% new Burgundian barriques, resulting in a beautiful balance of intense fruit flavors and richness. Its deep ruby-red color and enticing aromas of mulberry, violets, and pepper make it an irresistible treat. The palate is also dominated by dark fruits, accompanied by savory dark-mineral notes and hints of exotic spice, all guided to a long finish by fine, supple tannins. This wine will particularly shine when paired with richer protein dishes such as steaks, roast lamb, or game casseroles. It has a flamboyant personality that is expected to continue to develop over the next 10-15 years if cellared properly.
