Description
For many the classic Barbera d’Alba Superiore is a well known Italian companion, and a style of wine we find ourselves returning to time and time again. The Barbera grape is certainly a lot softer on the palate and the tannins than the Nebbiolo for which the Barolo region is so famous, but with the grapes used for this wine grown in La Morra, Barolo you will certainly not be wanting for flavour. The colour is deep ruby violet with oneiric blue reflexes, and with the visuals the power of this wine is obvious even before you get to the pronounced aromas of ripe plums, cassis, coffee and mahogany. On the palate, the mouth explodes in warm and mature, ripe tannins and cherry flesh carrying over to a long and slightly toasted finish. This is a true Piemonte classic from a great year that drinks well already, but can also be stored for another 5 years. Serve it next to Lasagne, Rosemary Lamb Chops or Beef Stroganoff.
