Description
A Yarra Valley classic taking out the Trophy for Best Shiraz in the 2018 Royal Melbourne Wine Awards. What else can we say – this one is an absolute steal! Tokar Estate has a long history of premier winemaking in the heart of the distinguished Yarra Valley, continuously releasing bold, distinctive and award-winning wines with gutsy, authentic expressions of their terroir. All their wines are single vineyard and estate grown, nurtured from vineyard to bottle by renown winemaker Martin Siebert and the Tokar family. And with this 2017 Shiraz we now proudly bring you what is probably one of our most prestigiously awarded wine to date, having already received the Trevor Mast Trophy for Best Shiraz at the 2018 Royal Melbourne Wine Awards, and multiple Gold Metals incl the 2018 Yarra Valley Wine Show. Made with hand-picked grapes from a mature and deep-rooted block, the wine will meet you with a bright purple/ruby hue and savoury aromas of prosciutto, pepper corn and bay leaf. With a little air, the wine comes to life displaying its full range of boysenberry, cloves and vanilla, with a mouth-filling and elegant palate ahead of a long yet gentle finish. This is modern Australian Shiraz, made with a nod to Northern Rhone and an eye to the Yarra Valley’s future. It drinks deliciously now but there’s certainly no rush as this would easily cellar for another 20 years. A perfect pair with a premium lamb dish and will certainly complement a juicy steak.
