Description
The Tyrell’s Old Winery Pinot Noir has long been a icon of Tyrrell’s ability to make brilliant wines from low yielding grapes and still offer amazing value. This 2021 vintage is certainly no different, made by a perfect blend of pinot noir fruit sourced from some of the best growing regions in the country for this “heartbreak grape”. After harvest the fruit was fermented in a combination of traditional hand plunged open vats and larger potter tanks. Maturation was then carried out in predominantly French oak casks for 12 months prior to bottling. The wine carries lots of varietal cherry and strawberry aromas with complexing forest floor undertones. A soft but generously flavoured style of Pinot with sweet aromas of berries and mushroom. The palate is long and concentrated with rich sweet fruit, subtle savoury oak support and smooth tannins. Drinks well as a young wine but can be cellared for another 4-5 years. An ideal accompaniment to lighter red meat dishes, light game and poultry, tomato-based pasta and semi-soft cheeses.
