A long-standing icon of Tyrrell’s ability to craft characterful wines from low-yielding fruit while still offering exceptional value, the Old Winery Pinot Noir continues to deliver with this impressive 2021 vintage. Sourced from some of Australia’s best regions for Pinot Noir, it brings together purity of fruit, thoughtful winemaking and an approachable, food-friendly style. Following harvest, the fruit was fermented in a combination of traditional hand-plunged open vats and larger Potter fermenters, before spending 12 months maturing predominantly in French oak. In the glass, the wine opens with classic varietal aromas of cherry and strawberry, layered with subtle forest floor and earthy undertones. On the palate, it is soft yet generously flavoured, with sweet berry notes and a gentle hint of mushroom adding complexity. The texture is smooth and polished, with rich fruit concentration supported by subtle savoury oak and fine, integrated tannins. The finish is long, balanced and quietly satisfying. Drinking beautifully in its youth, yet with the balance to cellar confidently for another few years. A natural partner to lighter red meat dishes, light game and poultry, tomato-based pasta, or semi-soft cheeses. A polished, approachable Pinot Noir — expressive, reliable and always a pleasure at the table.

Few names are as woven into Australia’s wine story as Tyrrell’s. Founded in 1858 by English immigrant Edward Tyrrell, the family planted their first Shiraz and Semillon vines in the Hunter Valley — beginning a legacy that now spans over 160 years and five generations.
Still family-owned and operated, Tyrrell’s remains a true pioneer of Australian winemaking. From the creation of the iconic Vat 1 Semillon to the groundbreaking Vat 47 Chardonnay, Vat 8 Shiraz Cabernet and Vat 9 Shiraz, their wines have become benchmarks of quality and character — earning more than 5,000 awards along the way.
The estate’s vineyards stretch across the Hunter Valley and into Heathcote, Victoria, with some vines over a century old. Sustainability and stewardship are central to their philosophy, reflected in significant reductions in emissions and a deep respect for the land that continues to nurture their craft.
Visitors to the historic Pokolbin winery can experience guided tastings, tours, and a tangible connection to Australia’s winemaking heritage — where every bottle tells a story of place, patience, and passion.
Pioneers then. Perfectionists now.
