A debut release from the boutique winemakers at George’s Folly, Pie in the Sky is a classic, cold-weather Shiraz that leans confidently into richness, warmth and comfort. Sourced from the Fleurieu Peninsula, this wine reflects both its coastal influence and a thoughtful hand in the cellar — expressive, full-bodied and unapologetically generous. The nose opens with subtle vanilla and well-judged French oak, followed by dark fruits and a gentle lift of spice. On the palate, the wine is plush and warming, unfolding layers of ripe red and black fruits, pepper, liquorice and savoury spice. Notes of nutmeg and cinnamon weave through the mid-palate, while a touch of chocolate adds depth and softness to the long, satisfying finish. There’s a comforting richness here, yet everything feels composed and balanced. Already cellared to a point where it drinks beautifully now, the structure and depth suggest it will continue to evolve gracefully for another few years. This is a Shiraz for those who love the classics — bold, familiar, and deeply satisfying. A natural match for hearty steak, slow-cooked lamb shanks, casseroles and rich winter dishes, or pungent hard cheeses like Gruyère and Parmesan. And, true to its name, it shines alongside a great gourmet pie. Best enjoyed with good friends, good food, and preferably a roaring fire close by — a wine made for lingering moments and colder nights.
