Crafted in the small village of Fompedraza in Valladolid, Gondomar del Reino is a wine of character and quiet power. Sourced from some of the highest vineyards in the Northern Hemisphere — many sitting above 1,000 metres — this Crianza showcases Tempranillo in its purest, most expressive form. The altitude, extreme conditions and distinctive terroir come together to create a wine that feels both powerful and finely etched. In the glass, it shows a deep cherry-red colour with subtle brick-red hues, clean and bright. The nose is intense and layered, opening with ripe black fruits before unfolding into toasted oak, vanilla and cocoa, lifted by gentle balsamic nuances from its time in barrel. It’s aromatic and confident, without ever feeling heavy. On the palate, the wine enters with strength yet finesse. Full of flavour and persistence, it delivers waves of dark fruit wrapped in notes of cocoa, toffee and chocolate. The structure is firm but polished, with a savoury depth that carries through to a long, satisfying finish. There’s richness here, but also precision — a hallmark of high-altitude Ribera del Duero. Released at an ideal moment for drinking now, yet built with enough structure to cellar comfortably for another few years. A natural companion to BBQ meats or roast lamb, where its depth and savoury edge really come into their own.
