From the high-altitude vineyards surrounding the village of Fompedraza in Valladolid, this Reserva from Gondomar del Reino is a deeper, more contemplative expression of Tempranillo. Grown in one of the highest vineyard regions in the Northern Hemisphere — with sites reaching beyond 1,000 metres — the wine reflects both the raw intensity of its landscape and the precision of careful, patient ageing. In the glass, it shows a layered, medium-high red colour with subtle brick-red tones at the rim. The nose is powerful and beautifully complex, opening with ripe black fruits, violets and cocoa, followed by delicate dairy notes and an elegant veil of toasted oak. Hints of kitchen spices add warmth and intrigue, giving way to a sense of depth and poise. On the palate, ripe black fruit tannins integrate seamlessly with the influence of oak, creating a rich and layered profile. Flavours of liquorice, toffee and cocoa unfold alongside notes of American tobacco, minerals and autumn leaves. There’s intensity here, but it’s finely balanced — structured, savoury and persistent, with a long, composed finish that speaks to its Reserva status. Released at a moment where it already drinks beautifully, yet built with the structure and complexity to evolve gracefully with further medium term cellaring.
