A beautifully poised expression of old-vine Barossa Shiraz, this release brings together fruit from two remarkable vineyard sites. One traces its roots back to around 1890 in Nuriootpa — the original Penfolds RWT vineyard — while the other comes from Stone Well, planted in 1970. Together, they form a wine that speaks clearly of heritage, restraint and thoughtful winemaking. The approach in the cellar is deliberately gentle, with a portion of whole bunch fermentation and a clear focus on freshness over excess ripeness. Aged for 12 months in predominantly seasoned Burgundian barriques, the wine finds a compelling balance between intensity and finesse. In the glass, it shows a deep ruby-red colour, opening with alluring aromas of mulberry, violets and cracked pepper. On the palate, dark fruits take centre stage, layered with savoury, dark-mineral notes and subtle hints of exotic spice. Fine, supple tannins guide the wine through to a long, composed finish, giving it both immediate appeal and serious structure. There’s richness and personality here, yet everything remains in harmony — expressive without being overwhelming. A natural partner to steaks, roast lamb or rich game casseroles, where its depth and savoury edge truly shine. Drinking beautifully now, yet with the pedigree and balance to continue evolving for 10–15 years in the cellar. Already highly awarded, this is old-vine Shiraz with presence, precision and a flamboyant streak that promises even more with time.
