Description
This exquisite 2018 Heathcote Shiraz is yet another prime example of how brilliant wineries like Taltarni can create magic with fruit sourced from other exciting Australian wine regions. On ancient Cambrian earth lies the iconic red soil that the vineyards of Heathcote are established on – soil widely regarded as the reason for the region’s unique Shiraz grapes with distinctive fruit aromas and choc-mocha flavours. Sourced from a single vineyard site, the wine is deep purple in colour, the nose fills with plum, red berries and spice with a hint of sweet oak. Following through from the nose, red berry and concentrated spice generously fill the palate, while fine chalky tannins are coating the mouth and driving the length of the wine. Layers of oak adds to the structure while the varietal shiraz flavours linger on the finish presenting a perfectly balanced wine. Awarded 91 points by James Halliday, the wine drinks beautifully now but will cellar for at least another 5-7 years. Pair this beauty with smoky and rich barbecued meats, grilled sausages and a beef, lamb, or game stew.
