Description
Tempranillo wines are probably more famous from its Spanish origin, but this Australian expression will leave you wondering why. Tokar Estate has a long history of premier winemaking in the heart of the distinguished Yarra Valley, continuously releasing bold, distinctive and award-winning wines with gutsy, authentic expressions of their terroir. All their wines are single vineyard and estate grown, nurtured from vineyard to bottle by renown winemaker Martin Siebert and the Tokar family. It was with good foresight and some fortune that Leon Tokar decided to plant this then little known Spanish variety in 1999, since these vines are now some of the oldest of their kind in the Yarra Valley and produce some of the most famous and exclusive wines coming out of this exceptional vineyard, including their world famous “The Aria”. And despite being the little brother, this 2018 White Label Tempranillo offers up some impressive flavours at great value. The wine has a bright and youthful purple colour, with sweet aromas of boysenberry and red liquorice leaping from the glass. The palate is fruity with notes of blood orange and cherries spiced with caraway seed. Soft and round but structured with tangy acidity and a gentle grip. The wine is drinking deliciously even as a young wine but will also cellar well for another 3-5 years. The obvious pairing would naturally be Tapas, but it also lends itself well to pork and pasta dishes.
