Crafted from the estate and nearby vineyards across the Hunter Valley, this Shiraz draws on fruit from top blocks with an average vine age of 40 years, predominantly dry-grown. Following the challenging drought conditions of 2020, generous rainfall set the stage for an outstanding 2021 vintage, delivering fruit of purity, balance and depth. Made to the same exacting standards as Tyrrell’s flagship Vat 9 Shiraz, the fruit was destemmed and left uncrushed to maximise whole berries during fermentation. Maturation took place in large French oak casks, allowing the regional character and fruit expression to shine without overt oak influence. On the nose, bright red fruits are layered with savoury spice. The palate is medium-bodied and composed, offering primary fruit flavours framed by soft, savoury tannins and refreshing acidity that add lift and complexity through the finish. There’s an elegance and restraint here that speaks clearly of the Hunter Valley style. This Shiraz drinks beautifully now, yet has the balance and structure to develop over the next few years. A versatile match for pasta dishes, burgers or light game, making it as comfortable at the table as it is on its own.
