Domaine de Nizas

Pézenas, Languedoc, France

Mediterranean spirit, expressed with precision.

For those who love great wines with identity – handcrafted, expressive, and attractively priced – the Languedoc-Roussillon really is a playground of discovery. In the heart of this vibrant region, just outside the medieval village of Pézenas, you’ll find Domaine de Nizas: a Franco-American vision brought to life.

Founded in 1998 by John Goelet — from a distinguished Bordeaux family — alongside celebrated winemaker Bernard Portet, Domaine de Nizas was created with the shared ambition to craft exceptional wines from exceptional terroirs. The same ambition that led the duo to establish Clos du Val in Napa Valley, and Taltarni and Clover Hill in Australia.

Here, three remarkable soil types converge: pebbles, basalt and limestone — a true mosaic that allows Syrah, Grenache and old-vine Carignan to flourish. With a Mediterranean climate, cooling northern winds, and meticulous manual vineyard care, the fruit ripens with purity, freshness, and depth. Sustainability isn’t a buzzword here — the vineyard has been certified since 2007, honoring the land for the long term.

The result? Wines that capture the character of Pézenas with generosity and Mediterranean charm — spice from basalt, vibrancy from limestone, and structure from river pebbles, woven into layered blends that age gracefully and drink joyfully.
