Head Wines was born from renown winemaker Alex Head’s dream to craft elegant, expressive Barossa wines — a dream that took shape while travelling through Europe’s great wine regions, where he fell deeply in love with the artistry of the Rhône Valley. Guided by a lifelong fascination with how good wine, fine food, and great company come together, Alex set out to create wines that bring joy to the table, every day.

Drawing inspiration from the legendary Côte-Rôtie — where the pale, limestone-rich Côte Blonde and the darker, iron-kissed Côte Brune produce wines of harmony and contrast — Alex found his own “roasted slope” here in South Australia. In the elevated vineyards of Eden Valley, he discovered the same poetic balance of light and dark, grace and structure, that first captured his imagination in France.

Today, Head Wines celebrates that meeting of worlds: Barossan power shaped by European restraint. Each wine is intentionally crafted to express its place — elegant, balanced, and full of quiet character — the mark of a winemaker who honours tradition while writing his own story.
